Folks it’s that time of year. Time to start looking at your laterals to ensure they are clean. Lateral maintenance from the main canal to the point of delivery is the responsibility of the users of the laterals. Just reminder water will not be delivered to laterals that have not been properly maintained.
Gates across the right-of-way must be hung on a 4 inch well casing of equivalent steel post with adjustable hinges. Gates must be maintained to swing freely and horizontally away from the canal with no ground interference. Any gate not maintained to swing freely will be left open. All gates should be left open during irrigation season, usually April to September.
Sprinkler nozzles; BRID recommends you change your sprinkler nozzles out every two years. Throughout the course of the irrigation season sand and grit works like sand paper enlarging the nozzle orifice. BRID recommends a 5/32” nozzle. Nozzles are available at the BRID office. A bag of 30 costs $16.50 or .55cents each. We have a limited amount on hand.
We don’t have a date set in stone for water start up however, we are looking at the latter half of April. Maintenance and weather are key factors. The date for water start up will be posted on Ditch News.
Water forecast. Snow pack is about 95 percent. Spring weather will dictate a lot. If it is cool spring this will help the snow pack stay in the mountains extending the irrigation season.
